On August 10th 2007, I had the distinct honor
and privilege of celebrating Helen Lydia Jones Kennedy’s 100th birthday
with family and friends at Tryon Estates in Columbus, North Carolina.
Helen had planned many details of her birthday with
the organizational, logistical, and (I’m sure) moral support of Debra Jones
and Glenn Jones. Martha and Jack Jones managed to throw in some surprises,
namely my mother and myself!
We were joined at a luncheon of lobster bisque and
lamb chops by Tilly and Mary, friends from Tryon Estates. Jack gave
a toast to commemorate the occasion and the party continued into the evening.
Here are a few pictures. Pardon my ‘not so sharp
images’. I included a few because they help tell the story.
Please, copy and reuse the ones you like.
In the days that followed Ann, Sam, and Margaret Ann
Carr, waylaid by weather, carried on the celebration.
My great-aunt Helen has now passed away. While
she lovingly remarked that she didn’t recommend living so long, she was
a bright and lively spirit who seemed to enjoy the festivities, family,
and friends that came with turning 100 years old.
Celebrate now!
